Digital Manufacturing Engineering (DME)

DME is part of the Corporate Engineering Tech Center (ETC). The ETC is a technical resource for training, standards, project implementation, and the center of engineering excellence for the corporation, providing deeply technical resources to solve the most intractable technical problems in manufacturing. DME provides Digital Engineering Platform ownership, OT data integration solutions, engineering data standardization/ownership, and digital manufacturing solutions for Lilly Manufacturing. Our team focuses on connecting our facilities (securely) and leveraging the data from those facilities to deliver digital manufacturing solutions to improve manufacturing productivity, data integrity / compliance, quality, and operational excellence. Digital Manufacturing Technologies include digital twins, computational modeling, edge/IoT, and analytics solutions. Digital Engineering Platforms include CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System), GECMS (Global Engineering Content Management System) and many other digital platforms leveraged by engineers across Lilly Manufacturing.

Position Description and Responsibilities:

The Digital Solutions Engineer will develop digital solutions (digital twins, analytics solutions, dashboards, models, automated workflows, etc.) in support of the Engineering Digital Strategy for Manufacturing and Quality within Lilly. These solutions will be developed on standard Digital Engineering Platforms supported by the DME team. The engineer will also partner with the data leads within the DME team to ensure necessary data is available to support their solutions. This is a global role, supporting functional initiatives and all Lilly Manufacturing sites globally.

This role is a mid-level engineering role which requires high learning agility, strong software development skillset, understanding of engineering business processes and problems within pharmaceutical manufacturing, understanding of industrial data, and knowledge of development and use of Digital Technologies (Digital Twins, Analytics, Dashboards, Modeling, Automated Workflows, etc.) in a manufacturing environment.

The primary focus of the role is to work under guidance of the Digital Program Lead and Digital Twin Product Owner to deliver solutions that are focused on increasing manufacturing capacity, resilience, compliance, and inspection readiness, along with supporting our operational excellence goals for safety, quality, and supply. These digital solutions will focus on assets with a goal of improving manufacturing asset performance.

Key Objectives/Deliverables.

  • Development of Digital Solutions, such as Digital Twins, Analytics, Dashboards, Models, Automated Workflows, etc.
  • Progress the Engineering Digital Agenda through solution delivery, such as Equipment Performance Monitoring, Asset Qualification Monitoring, and AI Monitoring solutions.
  • Develop proof of concept solutions to explore new concepts within the Engineering Digital Strategy, such as automated maintenance package development, optimized/intelligent maintenance scheduled, and automated testing for C&Q.
  • Developing and implementing technical requirements and documentation.
  • Partner with data leads to provide data requirements for solutions.
  • Ensure the solutions focus on value generation.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering or a related science field (e.g. CompE, ChemE, ME, CS, etc).
  • Minimum 3 years manufacturing experience.
  • Software development experience.

Additional Skills/Preferences

  • Knowledge of manufacturing datasets.
  • Experience with leveraging data to solve problems within a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience working with validated systems.
  • Experience in pharma or GMP industry.
  • Experience developing digital twins of manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to work well with different cultures.
  • Computational Modeling experience.
  • Advanced analytics / data science background.
  • Automated testing experience.

Additional Information

  • Monday through Friday Day Shift of 7:30am-4:30pm with some allowance for flex time.
  • Location: Indianapolis, IN
  • Travel: Limited Domestic and International travel required (less than 10%)
