Europol is looking for a Specialist – Solutions Engineer – Applications to join the Application Services Team, ICT Operations Unit, ICT Department, Capabilities Directorate.
Unit Overview
The ICT Operations Unit is responsible for the operations, management, availability and security of the Europol ICT Infrastructure and Applications. This includes teams responsible for Workplace Services, Service Management, Platform Services, Deployment Services, Application Services, Infrastructure Services and ICT Security.
Main Duties
The Specialist – Solutions Engineer – Applications will be in charge of the engineering complex solutions comprising of multiple Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) and bespoke applications, ensuring the creation and maintenance of low-level designs and their alignment with infrastructure and security best practices.
The selected candidate will have to carry out the following main duties:
- Act as Technical Product Manager of selected COTS solutions in the applications domain; developing and taking responsibility for the ICT product roadmap throughout its life cycle;
- In coordination with the application administrators within the team, create and maintain applications designs, ensuring alignment with architectural blueprints, defining the integrations with Europol infrastructure and platform
- Ensure the technical standardisation and alignment of Europol applications in multiple environments by identifying, designing, planning and proposing changes and procedures to assure reproducible deployments across the different environments;
- Design, implement and maintain operational procedures, propose and implement tools, automation and working practices for the continuous improvement of the efficiency and quality of service;
- Drive the evaluation and selection of the technical products that are required to implement ICT solutions;
- Contribute to the structuring, development and maintenance of the technical knowledge base supporting the ICT Infrastructure Operations activities;
- Closely work and collaborate with the Platform, Infrastructure and Security teams to increase automation, align ways of working and ensure best practices are followed;
- Closely work with the Software Engineers and development team leads to facilitate the operation of bespoke solutions by ensuring alignment with the IT Operations guidelines and best practices;
- Coordinate work of consultants delivering solutions within the area of responsibility;
- Perform any other duties in the area of competence as assigned by line management.

Europol offers a competitive basic salary and various supplementary allowances (e.g. expatriation allowance, foreign residence allowance, household allowance, dependent child and/or education allowance.) A list of the basic salaries and the type of allowances you may receive is available on our website. However, the salary package and allowances depend on the personal situation of each individual, so a more precise calculation is done when an offer of employment is made.
The basic monthly salary is EUR EUR 6,681.51 (step 1) or EUR 6,962.30 (step 2).
The indicative salary for a staff member (single) in receipt of expatriation allowance (16%) is:
- a) Staff member (single) in receipt of expatriation allowance (16%): EUR 6,883.74
- b) Staff member with two dependent children in their custody in receipt of expatriation allowance (16%): EUR 8,961.71
