The Solutions Design Team is searching for an innovative and solutions oriented engineer to help design our next generation Amazon Fulfillment Centers (FCs). A successful candidate will have a passion for creating high-performance physical systems, a strong technical problem solving ability, excellent project management skills, the ability to effectively communicate with and influence stakeholders at all levels and an internal motivation to deliver results in a fast-paced and often ambiguous environment. Key job responsibilities
The Solutions Design Team Not Only Owns Analyzing And Optimizing Existing Robotic FC Performance, But Combining Those Learnings With The Latest Technologies To Design New State Of The Art Robotic Material Handling Systems. The Day To Day Remit Includes
- Evaluate and create physical processing and material handling solutions using premier technology, robotics and data analytics to meet the product flow requirements based on Amazon design principles.
- Identify and examine key operational and financial metrics as part of program and feature selection in order to drive smart choices.
- Coordinate and partner with systems and operations engineering teams to develop product features and optimize the performance of the FCs.
- Manage and assist with multiple projects and tasks simultaneously and effectively influence, negotiate, and connect and communicate with internal and external business partners, contractors and vendors.
- Develop models as required to solve complex problems.

About The Team
The SSD Solutions team is within the Robotic Storage Technology organization within AR. Our focus is to design storage systems that fulfill the needs of our Sub-Same-Day business, specifically a combined fulfillment and last-mile building, storing 100K unique ASINs and delivering packages within 5 hours from when the customer ordered it. We own our designs from concept to sustaining. We model the use of new robotic technologies for future design concepts, and support ongoing performance enhancements in our existing network. We currently support 76 live SSD sites in the US, and are launching a new type of automated storage and retrieval system in an alpha site by May of this year. We are a team of 7 members currently, but with new projects on the horizon both from internal initiatives and customer needs, we expect our team to double in size to keep up with the tasks at hand.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, operations, or a related field
- 2+ yrs of experience as an industrial engineer, process engineer, systems engineer, manufacturing engineer, project manager or related occupation.
- Experience using MS Excel, MS Project, AutoCAD and commercial off the shelf technologies such as Tableau, SQL, etc.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in engineering, operations, or a related field together with at least 1 year of progressive experience.
- Experience working with the designs of complex automated material handling equipment and systems including robotics and high-speed manufacturing.
- Demonstrated use of analytical skills to solve complex engineering problems
- Experience with process design based on Lean Principles.
